My approach is not reliant on will power. The focus is on making small sustainable changes that your brain will never see as overwhelming. These small changes will slowly teach you new habits that will lead to a fit and healthy life without ever having to diet.
The physical effect diets have on your body
The human body has a system of hormones that have one important job, keep you alive. When weight Is lost quickly the body thinks it is starving. It doesn't know when the perceived period o famine will end, so it does everything it can to conserve energy to rebuild fat stores. In order to do this, the body releases hormones to slow your metabolism. What this means is your body will reduce the number of calories needed to maintain basic functions: Breathing, heart pumping, brain function, etc. You will feel tired, cold, unfocused, and cranky. If your body need less calories to function, you will also need to consume less calories to lose weight, or even maintain your pre diet weight.
After the diet is over and you return to your previous lifestyle, your metabolism will still be slow. It is nearly impossible to maintain weight loss from a diet when the diet is over.
(Pre diet calories consumed)+ (lowered metabolism)= additional weight gain!
This additional weight gain occurs as a defense mechanism against future "starvation" periods.
